Understanding What Your Pet Cat Is Telling You

Cats have always been very good at communicating with humans. If you take time to understand what exactly a cat wants you can build a long lasting relationship with your cat.
If you see your cats tail pointing straight up or she is waving it from side to side then they are obviously trying to make you aware of something. If however they start hissing you know that something has got them upset.
When a cat is blinking slowly or purring and the eyes are half closed then you know that they are content.
We have all heard the cat “meowing” or purring contently, but were you aware that these are not the only sounds that a cat makes? Apparently there are about nineteen different types of “meow” that a cat can make.
Purring from cats is not only because they are content. If you listen closely, you will probably hear them purring if they have to be treated at the vet’s or if a stranger tries to stroke them or pick them up.
When the cat makes sounds through open or closed mouth, it is asking for food or greeting you, these are slightly different than just purring.
There are the intense vocal sounds that a cat makes with its mouth wide open. These are normally a sign of fear, anger or pain. Some cats seem to talk more than others. If you listen to your cat and compare them to other cats you may see a difference.
It is always better to spend more time with your cat; this is the only way to really find out what she is trying to tell you. The more that you get used to her ways, the easier it will be to actually understand her. This is the only way that we can really communicate with our cats.
